Hey, Max! Similar to 914 stock steel Lemmerz "hubcap" rims mentioned above, my '70 Fastback has 5.5" "Brazilian" stock rims with those nearly square cooling vent holes. I painted them in a late '60's Beetle scheme with black centers and ivory outers. I never measured the offset, but appear to be similar to either those 914 rims, or to '73 Sports Bug rims at 26 mm. 185/65 tires front and rear. I've got a similar set to those, They originally came on my wife's 70 Fastback (before I put some 8 spokes on it), but I've also had them on my old 71 Notchback (Krunchy, when I painted the centers) and on my old 70 Square.

I should mention that these rims in the pics above have 205-65-15's on the rear, and 195-60-15's on the front.
If you can find them, these rims fit well too, but I don't know the offset. I'm also running the same tire size combo as on the other cars above.

Are those 6" on the front as well? They look nice. _________________ Joe P.

Yep, they are 6" all around.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find the hubcaps I had fit, since the US Wheel page was a big vague on those details.
Thinking back, I believe I actually ordered them through Jegs for a better price and free shipping. But they are available through a few vendors. Just have to search for the 131-5630 part number. |

I'm pretty committed to running 205x65s front and back.
I have a set of Mangles from back in the day with KG offset. There're only 4.5" but they worked with 205s on my old 68 squareback without issue.
For the fastback, I converted to the short axles and put these 5.5" bug wheels on the back. Those are still the mangles up front. No clearance issues and it rides/handles well.
The options for a 5.5" and an offset that would work with the 205s up front seem limited to having something custom made.
There used to be a advertiser here that would widen steel wheels and give you the offset you specified. Can't find him any more.

One wheel company which I remember from the '80's in HotVWs feature cars and in ads for custom/widened rims is Stockton Wheel Service in CA. A quick search does not result in a clear status if they are still in business...
