Luckily my metal trim pieces are in good shape.
Should I spread it open a bit. insert the carpet and tap it closed?

It sure looks like it should.

I just made some speaker kick panels and blew off the metal strips (mine were kinda mangled). Glued the carpet to the kick panels and flush with the windlace... looks pretty damn good.

Yes, And give it a lick of paint to make it look more sharp.

Thanks all.
Nicholas, I'll have lots of detail questions.
Can you mentor me?

I’ll help where I can, it’s likely so too will the rest of us. There are lots of resources here on the Samba that will guide you. I’d strongly recommend a copy of the big blue Bentley manual as well as the smaller one that covers ‘66 and beyond. Also, have a look at the Stickies for topics grouped together as reference. Hours of fun there. There’s my restoration thread as well that tracks some of my assembly.

Nicholas

Thanks
I spread open the metal strip to accept carpet.
Tarboard first
Then Welt
Then metal strip
Carpet will be inserted into strip and glued in.
I'll try and tap the metal strip closed to clamp the carpet.

This is the part of the carpet installation where I am too. Kiwighia68 sent me some Texon board pieces and a template to create new kick boards. Hope to have my carpet done this weekend. Good luck with yours.

I posted these up in other threads. Maybe you’ll find them useful.
