Here's what's happening in pic #1: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=621361

In pic #2 I see (L-R) the floor mount for the inner side of the passenger front seat, a brace from the dash near the heater levers (I think), the upper rear hook for the passengers seat and finally the ashtray clamp.

Don't mean to hijack but what better place to ask? I had this leftover after removing the cabinets to do the carpeting in my 77 Westy. I'm guessing it's for the icebox, or sink cabinet?? I dunno. Everything is back together. It has three holes that doesn't appear to be in any precise locaion.

Thanks. Great link; that's the one I used to disassemble everything! But I didn't see that piece in there. I'll put it back in the drawer and next time I have everything apart I'll look.

I'll keep an eye out for it, it's really familiar but escapes me right now, when I spot it I'll post.
