So finally getting to drive my type 3 again I am experiencing something I never did before in this car... awesome mileage.
the last couple tanks I have found it getting better, first tank 29mpg, second tank 31 mpg, third tank 33mpg. I think its going to fluxuate along those lines, i dont see it getting much better than thank. Mix of Highway and town driving in town around here is 25-35 , highway is 70-75mph
My engine combo is not ideal but its doing well. 1600, 8.7:1 , engle 110 cam, dual Weber 34ICT's. lightened flywheel, and counterweighted crank. the engine has a little more pep than the last 1600 i had in the bug before we sold it and that engine only got 24mpg on a good day.
Kinda curious as to what you guys are seeing? _________________ If you have any questions about Forged ICON 4032 VW pistons just shoot me a line. |

Not that good with a pair of Solex carbs. More like 27, but then the speedometer has been re-calibrated to the front tire size. And that's been pretty consistent on road trips across the USA (loaded up with extras). But then, I never really cared how good/bad the fuel mileage ever was on it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

hey Bob, care to tell us how you had the speedo calibrated? I've seen some add on doodads but never really messed with it |
You should have an ap on your phone that'll help you calibrate it. Plus those funky black electronic cop boxes can get you close. Also comparing tire sizes on the Miata.com site or one of the good tire sites that has a size comparison tool. Those get you close, and include a multiplier. Keep in mind that I've been running the tires on my car for close to 10 years, so once I had it calibrated, I left it alone.
Some cities have a good speedo shop that can mechanically set it too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I was getting 29mpg average with adding octane and lead, then I realized I didn’t need to do that and now getting 26mpg. It completely original 1600 FI with new rings and seal kit. |
A lot of times good fuel, ignition timing, wind direction, and outside temps all make a difference in mileage. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
