I'm doing some custom wiring and I need to add several resistors and diodes inline with the wires. In the past, I just spliced the resistor legs by twisting it into the wire & wrapped it with tape. It was not clean looking, and sometimes it would pull apart (need more tape).

I'm wondering if there is a better way - maybe some type of special tap or block which holds the resistor neatly and is easy to use? Also, I'm swapping out different resistors as I go for testing, so non-permanent is also a factor.

Thanks Smile

if you have somewhere you can put a circuit board, mount everything to a circuit board, l'm sure there are terminals you can solder in, that you can attach regular wire to, and as for the resistors and diodes, they would be pretty easy to solder in, and remove from a circuit board.
not know what size you need, not a lot of point searching for a specific circuit board, or terminals, but the idea, should get you going.

resistors and diodes will crack *easily* if bent. so to put them inline in wiring, you MUST have some sort of physical support. a chopstick segment is perfect. make a 180 degree loop with a needle nose pliers in both the wire and component, 'latch' them together, then SQUEEZE the wire and solid wire component lead closed on each other. then you must finish with soldering the two together. wrap it in electrical tape to the chopstick, extending the tape over the chopstick section to prevent water intrusion. or use a section of adhesive lined heat shrink tubing.

Maybe one of these? - with shrink tube?

PM me with a sketch of the schematic, dimensions etc and I will design a PCB for you. PCB cost is probably 10$ for 100 pieces depending on complexity.

That's really nice of you, but I don't think I need something like that.

I solder the ends to the wire and slide a piece of hose over the installation. Seems to work, but I can count on my hands the number of times I’ve done this.

Shrink tubing and a heat gun. Tubing bonds to whatever is inside adding strength.

You can get a butane soldering iron that doubles as a heat gun.

Small (e.g. 18-22ga.) uninsulated butt connectors crimped over the component leads, two or more can be inserted either from opposite ends or both from one end of the little tube. Then crimp, flux leads before insertion and solder if you want a permanant low-resistance connection, and adhesive-lined shrink over all.

But if you're resistance shopping, nothing beats a decade box to dial it in, then use the actual resistors.

If testing by swapping resistors, consider using a variable resistor while you do the tests. Then when you've settled on a value, measure it and replace the variable resistor with a permanent one.

Alternatively, use one of those peg-board prototyping circuit boards, then you can plug and play with components to your heart's content. Wink e.g.: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/digikey-standard/DKS-BBOARD3.3/16633815

Short answer: Don't use this stuff for this purpose.

Longer answer: These adhesives conduct electricity, but not that well. They're useful for things like repairing a defroster grid, but if the resistance of the circuit in question matters at all, they're a poor (and highly variable) choice.
