Hey crew,

I have a nice quality off-brand 8, or 10 slot blade fuse box thats brand new, I had it for another project that I sold. I plan on running blade fuses in my 61' bus. I'll probably use this one I have on hand. Its either the same amount of slots or 2 extra, Im not home I can't check, nonetheless! ......

I have several manuals but I can't find the stock fuse sizes/ diagram. If I remember correctly the original german style fuses, the little funky cute red and off white ones were odd amp sizes, in comparison to standard size, or modern size.

Does anyone have any tips for this relatively easy swap out as I go through my wiring. For example, say a particular stock VW fuse is 8, and Im throwing together blade style, which seem to be more rounded numbers-ish, should I round up to the closest. Example, stock for a particular slot 8, put in a 10 blade? I'll be running an upgraded alternator FWI.

Thanks all, hope your doing well!
Exclamation

Not sure why anyone would want to change a good design but to each...

Going with larger amp rated fuses means your wiring and devices could get hotter than designed which isn't good. I suppose an amp or two really wonte matter but you don't want to go too big.

I would suggest you remove your original Bakelite fuse box, clean, solder the connections of the fuse holders on the backside, clean you wiring connectors, apply di-electric grease, and enjoy the next couple decades of trouble free wiring.

Split window originally had all 8 amp (white) fuses. Dealer additions like radios may have higher rated 16 amp (red) fuses installed.

You can order a blade fusebox that is made for a bus, and not hack the harness to fit a generic one. I repaired my original fuse box, and use the blade version for accessories; half my accessory fuses are hot all the time and the other 4 are activated by a solenoid when they key is turned.
