I had a successful arthroscopic surgery Monday to reattach the rotator cuff tendon. On the way to recovery!
Since I am one armed for a while I decided to start working on stuff that I can do one armed.
Let's build the LiFePO4 battery.
Top balancing 280AH EVE cells. They all were 3.292V out of the box. Using a power supply to apply constant voltage at 3.65V until they take no more amps in parallel. Then they get assembled in series to make an awesome 12V battery.

How long will you be one armed? I had my AC joint rebuilt and that was 6 months of being one armed. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

Had my labrum repaired in two spots last summer, 6 weeks in a sling doesn't seem to long until about 2 weeks into it. Best of luck with your rotator cuff recovery, dont skimp on the PT, it sucks but it is absolutely worth it! _________________ 1985 Vanagon Westfalia - Acquired all original, now a work-in-progress |

I will not be able to really use my upper right arm for at least 3 months. Full recovery in 6-9 months. No working on anything strenuous above my waist or reaching for anything with my right arm... _________________ Dave O

Hi Dave:
So sorry to hear about your injury and the months needed to convalesce.
My LiFePo4 280A/h setup recently went way out of balance. It sat unused for too long, I suspect (will report later), but the upshot is that I am also slow-charging with an Amazon power supply. Once the charging went far slower than I expected, I changed things up to improve the charge rate.
It turns out that those cheap alligator clips, when attached to the steel/stainless steel 4mm battery studs, induce some electircal resistance. Once I placed the alligator clips directly on the bus bars, the current throughput almost doubled.
But you have 6 months to watch your VOM, so maybe this tip is not so important to you. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

Good call. I moved the clips from the threads on the post to the bus bar. The amps went from 2.7 to 3.9. That is significant.

I'd check that SS tank-stud-unit, make sure it doesn't leak around the studs.
Not sure how.
Maybe put some gasoline soluble felt-tip marker on the stud-welded side, and drip a little gasoline on the stud threads, see if gasoline comes out the welded side.
And dissolves the pen mark. _________________

Interesting. I would not have thought to check it. Good idea! _________________ Dave O

The way things are going with the water shortages what are your thoughts on carrying extra water? _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I cannot imagine not being able to find water due to shortages. The shortage will be for agriculture though. |
Just wondering what the price of bottled water will be?
For the past years it has already been the most expensive agricultural product in the stock market. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Good and bad news.
Good news:
I was talking with Matt Steedle who is now doing the front diff. I put a locking Peloquin in the rear transmission and he is moving the original rear locking diff into the front diff. I'll get a rear Peloquin locker and a front diff locker out of it.
Bad news:
The tailshaft for the front diff, 094-409-141, has worn splines and has slop with the splines in the VC. It really should be replaced or there will be a 'clunk' when on and off the throttle. Aaaaand that part is NLA of course. So I need to source a good used tailshaft. The hunt begins.
(Matt is trying all his network but no luck so far.)
