Hello all; I am new to the Forum though I have followed TheSamba for many years mining all of the collective wisdom. I have enjoyed a number of aircooled VWs over the years but my favorite remains my 1958 Karmann Ghia coupe which I bought with lawn mowing money when I had just turned 15 so that would be, oooh, lessee, 49 years ago. Here we are in 1974:

The car was originally black but I painted it this burned orange color (my tastes being as they were at the time) which is actually a Karmann Ghia color (Sunset L31K) but for later '60's car. I redid the car in 1980 using the same color (taste hadn't evolved much):

I got married in 1986 and there was no longer any garage space for the poor Ghia so it has sat under makeshift carports since 1987. I dragged the old dear along every time we moved and erected another semi-dry shelter each time. I finally got a little garage built just for the car and moved her in and started dismantling. The years have taken their toll:

So here we are. I appreciate all the knowledge on this wonderful site along with the friendly support I will be needing as I begin a serious rebuild of my sweet and long-suffering little friend.
Clayt

Welcome Clay.
We'd all love to hear about the developments with your car. There's not many examples with such long continuous ownership such as yours, Truly something special.

Welcome. Looks like your old friend is pretty solid. Looking forward to seeing more pictures. You had good taste in your youth! Smile
What a bargain your car was. I wish I could go back 40 years and buy a nice Ghia and hang on to it.
