So I am wondering if anyone knows the thread pitch on each end (same?) of this pipe? And further if the pipe is available as a separate part? Thanks in advance.

Doug

3/4 - 16

Both ends are the same.

Protip... Slot the exposed end so you can spin it out to renew the oil cooler seal without undoing the short coolant hoses connecting the oil cooler to the water pump.

The pipe may be the same on other vehicles using the same cooler design, as the 3/4-16 thread is very common in the filter world.

...or tap a Torx-55 bit into the bottom open end, same result... Cool

Where can I get a new one of these pipes?
Is there a part number?
And what’s it called specifically? When I search for oil filter pipe I just get a lot of oil filler pipes.
Thanks, I’m in the middle of changing my cooler gasket and the extractor bit got stuck in the pipe and now I destroyed the threads trying to get it out. Embarassed

If you have a wrecking yard near, I would suspect that any VW or Audi of that era which used the same oil cooler would use the same nipple.

Isn't it essentially just a piece of NPT plumbing pipe?

Thanks for the links. I've placed three orders for this part and all of them have been cancelled. So frustrating.

As I understand, yes. Nothing super special.

If I was in this situation I’d be running to the plumbing shop or any good hardware store. Bring the pipe with you & they’ll match it…such is life near the end of the road.

Found it and ordered it from Van Cafe. I searched many times with the part number using the hyphens and no hyphens and theirs never came up until last night I searched again and there it was. ACE hardware didn't have the pipe and my plumber couldn't make those threads so hopefully Van Cafe comes through and I'll be back on the road soon.

NPT threads are tapered. The tube has straight threads.

So noted, thanks. Seem like it would be even easier to source locally (as long as there are still local shops in the world that thread pipe).

<fingers crossed>
