|
|
I just bought a used class 9 and the previous owner hacked in a battery plate for a large automotive battery to power his, of all things, large stereo he added to the car. I found a place where two Oddessy 680 batteries would sit, way down low in the car. I would like to run this battery as it is a clean place to put them. Question is: 1) is the 680 a good battery to run, 2) can I get away with just one for a while or does the system require two?
Thanks in advance.

I think that is an undersized battery. I prefer to have closer to 800-1000 cranking amps, That one only has about 500. |

Why run 2? Seems like more stuff to go wrong to me.
I run a single Odyssey 925 and it starts my 2180 just fine. I have had it over 2 years with zero issues. _________________ 65 Baja - Class 5 Unlimited Race Car

Two in parallel as the car was designed would be best then. |

Going on CCA the 925 has 900 and the 680 has 520. So I can see why not running just one 680 battery. One 925 would be sufficient. |

If its just a play buggy the has good starting and good charging system, a 600 CCA plus battery will do just fine....

Searching for another post I found this one I started way back when and thought I would give an update. The two batteries in the race car have performed flawless. Having the selectable switch for 1, 2 or both helps. We run on battery 1 99.9% of race miles while battery 2 powers the go-pros. We found that the go-pros would shut off when starting the car when on the main battery. Loading on the trailer, around the pits, basically anytime we're not racing we run the switch on both batteries to give them a charge.
When I built my 'manx' I used the same Odyssey 680 and it works great too. It's only gone low in the driveway when the car decided not to start which is another concern not battery related. When I bought the battery for the manx I bought an XS Power from Amazon in the same size. It works great too.
The only issue I had was when I put one of the Odysseys on a slow charger overnight before a race it expanded and was done for. |

I think next time lead with what you plan to need two batteries for instead of end.
Do the classes have a spec related to batteries? I don't race. Asking for a friend.
