PostPosted: Wed Mar 15, 2017 12:53 am    Post subject: Oil relief valve screw on 36HP Reply with quote

Hello, I am posting here as there is more activity than in the vintage speed forum.

I am wandering where I can find this item in subject, as I am struggling to have a new one. Mine has been damaged during dismantling as it was stuck. I am wandering if it exists in hex or Allen version. If someone as one spare I would be interested as well.

Thanks

PS : I am located in Europe...

1958 Type 1
31.12.1957 / 31.12.1958
1,2 L
22 kW / 30 PK

Screw M14 x 1,5
VW part number is 111 115 431A

If you can't locate it, there was an oversize screw available with part number 111 115 431B (=M16 x 1,5)
Seems still available but no picture, you can ask if it is the correct screw http://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/en/verschlussschraube-9b921f.html

Hello, again,

I contacted several supplier and they told me that this part is no more produced and available from VW, only used parts can be found. But sometimes alternative supplier can manufacture parts no more available and this is why I asked if there is somewhere someone with this part that can help me. I do not want to thread my case to M16x1.5, but would prefer to have a used part of M14.

Thanks.

"" I do not want to thread my case to M16x1.5, but would prefer to have a used part of M14""

I understand.
How bad is your plug? Post a picture.
A machine shop can make one for you.

Regards.

I remember not too long ago there was a person advertising new ones that he makes and I think they were allen head but I can't seem to find the ad now.

Perhaps you could contact one of the people here that advertise complete 36hp engine rebuilding services and see if they will help you out.

Why not have someone weld the top and cut a new slot?

If I do not find the part, that's a good idea. I would weld a nut in this case to be able to dismantle it without damaging it anymore.

Hello,

Let me know by PM, how much shipping included, but I do not think it will be too high for such a small part.

Before you get too far with buying another one of these screws, you should know that there are two styles one for the early cases with a hollow center that the spring fits into and one for the later cases that are solid with the spring sitting on the top.

It is an improved design although there is nothing wrong with the original VW oil pressure plug as long as you use the right tool.

Does anybody at which engine number these changed from early to late style? The ‘58 Volkswagen parts manual lists 111 115 431 (M16 x 1.5) and then 111 115 431A (M14 x 1.5)

Are early ones M16 and then the ones with ‘A’ suffix 14mm? If so, when did the change take place?
