Hi my transmission is stuck in either 1st or 2nd. I was told its possible to open the filling plug, see the 1 & 2 sliders, and use a screw driver to set them to neutral. Does anyone have a picture or know of a video of what this looks like?
THanks
David

I've never seen a video, although I've never looked.
Your assignment David, should you choose to accept, is to make a video and put it on YT.

I'm guessing it was shifting fine before? Have you checked anything else? Any weird noises from the motor? I thought what you describe would indicate a problem w/the nose cone, something broken inside.

Back story is I’m new to VW, sent my car to a guy to get it converted to auto stick. Everything is wrong, parts not used etc. Find out later he is a criminal who has chopped up and sold cars people have taken to him for work. So I’m having to unfuck it. I have a SoCal conversion kit. The trans is fine. But before I figured out everything about the shifter is wrong I dislodged the hockey stick. I would prefer not to have to drop the engine again. ‘‘Twas not fun.

When I figure it out I’ll make some content.

Do we understand you correctly, that you want to get rid of your 4-speed manual, and have the factory-style semi-auto system installed/retrofitted?

The car was autostick. I sent the car off to have it converted to manual shift and provided the SoCal conversion kit. There was no clutch cable tunnel and it required having this welded in, why I did not attempt the conversion myself.

The guy who did the work did a terrible job. I took the engine and trans out, reset the hockey stick and put it back in, and took care of a bunch of stuff while I had easy access.

What I didnt realize was he also did a bad job with all the shifter and rod components. I am correcting this now. But when I was trying to get it to shift I knocked the hockey stick out of location. Its stuck in gear. I have been told that I can move the 1 / 2 slider to get it into neutral again through the filler hole. I will have time to try this on Sunday. I was just wondering if someone had a picture of this.
