Hello. I have an 1835 engine in my street buggy. It has a cam from JC Whitney from the mid to late 70's. If my memory is correct, the grind was 286 duration and 410 lift. Does anyone have an old catalog or can cross reference the grind to a brand and part?
The engine has stock DP with 44IDFs. It goes like stink if you spin it...I'm thinking I'd like more low end. |

JC Whitney did not grind cams, they just re-packaged and sold somebody else's cams. It could be a reground stock cam. My guess it is an Engle W-110
I'm guessing the 44 IDF's are too big. If you want more bottom HP you may need smaller carbs or at least smaller venturies in the 44's _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

If it says AP-2 or AP-3, then we ground it. We sold thousands and thousands of cams to JC Whitney _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

I always thought they were Scat cams. I installed a few back in the day.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I have the Super Street Eliminator and my memory is not as bad as I feared. |

Sheeesh...I recall well the day the reground crank/bearing combo from JCWhitney showed up, after the crank in my old 40-horse snapped in half, circa 1981.
That's where you got parts if you lived in, say, South Dakota.
Filled out the order form, sent a money order, waited a month.

I remember getting a reground crank with bearings from JCW for $39.95 for my 40 hp in 1975. |

I used to love looking at those catalogs _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? " - clonebug

Its too bad that W & Company evolved into a glorified chain-type store that sells wiper blades and air fresheners. |

My Dad used to get the Whitney catalog.
It was always kind of a joke even back then.
Snake oil and low prices; carnival barker salesmanship.
Can remember being like 12 years old and looking at those very items.

They certainly could pack a ton of crap on each page. And this was LONG before Chinese junk was here. This was good old fashioned Made in USA junk.
And there is not one of you out there that did not buy something from them, we all did. If you say you didn't then you are lying or you grew up under a rock and never had a car or a mailbox! |

I'm pretty sure I STILL have parts that I got from JC Whitney on my car! _________________ "It's time you started treating people as individuals, rather than mathematically predictable members of an aggregate set, regardless of how well that works." |
