| Maybe someone can answer these questions for me.. Can 65 doors be used on a 66, if the hinges are changed? Can a 5 lug beam be used on a 66, if the pitman arm, and spindles are changed? Is a 67 fastback rearview mirror correct for a 66 notch? thanks in advance. |

the doors should work, are they coming off another car besides a notch?I didn't know 66 changed over in hinge patterns, thought it was 67.anyways,as long as you have a 2 bolt door on a 2 bolt hinge and vice versa for 3.
the mirror won't work
the beam will work
someone correctme if I'm wrong on these _________________ insanity takes it's toll, please have exact change ready.
my imaginary friends keep telling me I have a mental problem. |

Tip of the month for all; ALL Notchbacks from 61 to 73 use 3 bolt door hinges. Starting in 66 Squarebacks and Fastbacks got 2 bolt hinges, and prior to 66, ALL type3s got 3 bolt door hinges.
Since your working with 66 and 65 parts, you'll need to get the adapter hinges to make them work. Contact Tom Hanson at http://home.att.net/~drsowatt/index.html and see if he'll give you a copy of the template to make some adapter hinges, or if he'll sell the parts to you. He's the only guy I know that even has this stuff!!
The mirror won't work, as Notch mirror uses a different length and attaching method.
If you're converting your 66 to wide 5 using 65 parts, get the complete beam, brake drum to brake drum. Get it all, it will interchange, but you'll need all the individual parts. The rear wide 5 drums can be used with the 66 backing plates, as the shoes and backing plates are the same size. I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

| thanks for your replys. Bob: I have a complete 65 beam drum to drum that I want to put in my 66, because the beam in my 66 is bent, but I want to keep the disk brakes and keep it 4 lug. Thanks again.. |

Ok, in this case, you can use the beam, remove the spindles (I'd do it at the ball joint nuts (30mm ones)) and swap the 66 spindles onto the 65 beam. Use the 65's tie rods as they shouldn't be bent either and will fit, and keep it disc - 4 lug.
I just realized that you're working on a 66 Notch (it was late when I first responded), correct? If so, you don't need the adapter hinges unless your using a 66 and later Fast or Square doors. If the doors you want to use (65's) are going on a Notch, then they are a direct bolt on. I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Is there a source that lists what parts can interchange?
I am looking a getting a 1968 fastback that has a very body that the PO made some stupid cuts on very odd sun roof and the rear seat support and shelf have been cut out.
Other that that the body is in great shape.
What years and cars will the fenders doors interior fit.
I am buying a fastback or squareback to drive and/or restore and the above will be my parts car. Unless I weld that part back in behind the seat and weld a 2'X3' patch in the roof.
Thanks
Tom |

Well, since you have a 68, the right front fender only fits 68 and 69. The doors will fit a 67 and up to 73, the fron hood fits a 62 to 69, while the rear trunk lid fits from 66 on up to 73. The rear fenders will fit from 62 to 69, but the moulding hole will need to be enlarged on the up to 66 cars(65 and earlier). The rest of the car can be used under all models, but the 69 and laters really use IRS instead of swing axles. I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

What are these adapter hinges you speak of? The link to Tom Hanson does not work, do you have any contact info for him? I'm looking to add a 2 bolt door to a 3 bolt 1966 Squareback. The 2 bolt door I have now is the passenger. Still looking for a driver door. |

Sorry that was the contact info I had for him (that I posted up). I think someone from Oregon has pics and did a hinge conversion on here, but it was years ago, and I can't remember who it was. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
