Anyway, not "Solstice chat", but I've often wondered if mechanics are grumpy due of the heavy concentration of solvents in their work environments.
I lost about 1/7th of my life .... for many years to Toluene, a miserable headache at least once a week (for years).
Toluene is in carburetor cleaner, spray paint, engine exhaust.
Once I learned to avoid it .... getting that day back was kinda wonderful.
Now I use the stuff sparingly, and only upwind of a fan.
If I get one whiff of it, I am afraid that "tomorrow will be ruined".
Mechanics should read about Toluene's toxicity effects and consider if their response to this aromatic solvent is similar that as described by Wikipedia.
Skip down to the toxicity section.
Since that fateful day of discovery, now I use MAF sensor cleaner for a solvent spray.
This was a tip from master mechanic and fun Van guru Tom Lengyel.
It's not as effective, but my life is better.
I need to rig up an air-supplied hood/respirator.
Solstice is probably NOT the place to discuss headaches, unless it can improve attendance or fireside chat.
I wish I could attend this year but have a schedule conflict.
My daughter graduates from college in June
.....which means I get a raise soon, and can likely afford Solstice 2025. _________________

Make that 33 registrations. I am coming this year and just registered.
Mrs. Howesight might join me or she might not. (I reserved a guest spot just in case.) She has recently opened a new office, so she is rather swamped with that and did not want to commit.
Fortunately, I might be able to bring a son or a sister or two instead of Mrs. Howesight. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |
