Bummer! I assume you've reported this to facebook, cops, etc. Still a hassle to deal with. Care to post up the fake ad so we can spot it? |

Are these cars in your backyard and someone nicked your pics from online posts?
Or were they stolen and you found them on FBM? _________________ I have learned over the years.

I went to pick one or two up today and they were gone. I have pics, but these were taken by the thieves. A friend saw the 49 for sale from Houston last week while it was still at the house. (I believe) The same friend saw it again today for sale out of Prescott AZ. |

The White Sedan was my dad's August 1963 "1964" VIN 5700592. He passed about 3 months ago at 92 y and 10 months old and was buried very close to the 60th anniversary of when he bought it.
The blue rag was left by an old friend for his share of the rent a long time ago.
The chassis was a spare 1950 chassis I had.

Sorry to read that your cars were stolen.
One of my 67's was stolen a couple years back during a home break in.
I have never felt so violated.
Thankfully, my 67 was recovered 6 months later. But it will never be the car that it was before.
The thieves seized the engine and rear ended the tow vehicle while dragging into the local forest for storage.
Have the local Sherriff/police put the vins in the stolen car network.
Hopefully when the buyer tries to register the car(s), they'll get flagged as stolen.
Good Luck Mike. _________________ I have learned over the years.

I really hope you get your cars back, seems like the thieves knew what they were looking at so at least that narrows down the criminal (cess) pool. I'll keep my eye out for ads here in FL. |

Just curious... was the house abandoned? Looks pretty messy in the backyard. Did any neighbors see anything? Can we assume that the one guy in the background of the photo is one of the thieves? _________________ My Beetles :

Should be pretty easy to track that down. You let someone in your yard who then told someone. Inside job for sure.
Did they move the car to Arizona? I wonder if that makes it Federal as well by crossing state lines.
Did you file a police report? _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Thieves suck, kill them all. Do not depend on the cops, do your own research. My wife's daily VW was stolen from my lawn which is 600 feet from the road and farther to any houses. Within 24 hours I told the cop the name of the person that took it and I didn't know him. He refused my info. Five weeks later that person was caught with a stolen license on my wife's car and drugs in the car. He did no time for stealing the car as no one saw him do it. Drugs and receiving stolen property were charges. |

That's what's left of the old John Chipps Feb. '49.

I agree with Ontario, it fits. If it is 1950 plate, the car sure got beat up quickly, unless the plate stayed on the car for many years? I was trying to decide if it said 1950, 1956, 1958 or 1959.
On ebay, almost every Ontario plate shown had either white or yellow as the background color. What is the difference in the white, yellow, or black background? |

It's an Ontario plate from 1959. '56 and '58 are a different color. 1950 would have an earlier crown design that is not as wide nor detailed. The crown design changed for 1953, probably with coronation of the Queen.
The deterioration of that car is disappointing, someone was not a very good steward. _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"

I read this as them being in his back yard in Houston, TX when stolen.
I agree that might not be 100% perfectly clear though. _________________ How to Post Photos

All 3 cars were purchased for $2k (not by me) with no titles at all. The buyer sold the split the next day. All I know is it is not in Texas anymore. When I heard about it I was very suspicious as a Split Bug is worth more than $2k. Supposedly someone bought your dad's house after he passed and sold the cars from the backyard. I don't have much info other than that, sorry. _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

Those aren't stolen cars. if someone bought the house, they have a right to clean up the property. |

Sorry, they are stolen. The buyer gave me until the end of the year to get them out. When I found out they had jumped the gun, I specifically told the people on site and the people in charge of them that I had until the end of the year to move what I wanted, and that they could not have any of the VW items. They stole them. |
