I use Dumbells at home and don’t have time to join a gym. I was thinking about getting a rowing machine. My thinking is that it’s cardio, muscle building and range of motion improving.

I guess it depends a lot on what you're working with 'body wise' - how old you are and what infirmities/conditions you're carrying...

as for what have I got? a bicycle; plus I try to build exercise into what I'm doing - always take the stairs, walk to places, use hand tools - shears, saws and drill etc

I don't understand transport that's bolted to the floor, so if you're rowing why not do it on the water, go places and see things?

I’m 58 and not fat, maybe a bit around the middle. I do the same as far as walking as much as I can and not taking short cuts on physical activities. My neighborhood is hilly making biking a challenge. Plus takes time. Having just open my restaurant, I really don’t have much time.

The "Blue zone" analysis recommends light to moderate exercise, walking, lots of up and down movement ( like gardening), outdoor sports ( like badmitten and whiffle ball). Might not be an answer for your area but the conclusions are pretty low tech.

We have a weight bench and an elliptical, the latter being mainly my wife's mode of cardio. Me? I run. Like out in the street with spotify piped in through my hearing aids.

Then there's some pushups and situps, not to mention I'm on my feet all day long, often lifting and carrying boxes, sometimes up and down ladders.

I'm 64 and basically with the same basic body shape as when I was 24. I'm a lightweight.

First, I knew Glenn was going to post his camel toe pic.

I’m on my feet all day, everyday. And actively working. I just feel stiffer than I want to feel.

We have a membership at our local YMCA. Cardio, treadmill, elliptical, weights, Jazzercise, yoga, gut cut, weight training, pool, you name it. $80 a month for the family and it’s completely covered by our Medicare advantage program.

Rowing machines are great for cardio and work everything from your fingers to your toes and are not weather dependent. Combine with a good stretching routine and some pushups and sit-ups/planks, you can be as fit as you want to be.

Try before you buy though as some people just don't like rowing or buy a low cost machine that doesn't fit them or work well.

Biking is good. Swimming might be better.

It sounds like you are asking about what to do at home to minimize the time needed so my answers below will reflect that.

Dumbbells are good, kettlebells are good too and probably better if you get a kettlebell routine going. Kettlebells can be both weight lifting and cardio.

Stretching/yoga, especially if you are older.

The rower is good but kind of boring to do for a long time, at least for me.
I've only used it at the gym though so at home you could watch TV or blast music without having to use headphones and that would help.

Rower stuff:
To the best of my knowledge, the Concept II rower is the best and the only one worth getting but I've never used any others.
You can probably find a used one for a lot cheaper on craigslist/Facebook Marketplace.
It's one of those things people buy and then quit using and sell.

If you do get a rower PLEASE watch some form videos on how to do it right and practice the right form for a while. 90% of the people I see at my gym doing it are doing it wrong, to the point where I can't understand how some of the older people haven't hurt themselves.

Ok, I’ll take the bait. Wow, someone actually paid 25 cents?

That for everyone’s input.

I think this pic is from early 2000s. Very Happy

I went to a car show Sunday and walked 2 miles. That’s better than sitting around.

fuckin pic is so old the bike has antique plates now Laughing

Post heart attack I do (average) 10 miles a day on a recumbent bike (stationary) and most days it's 12-14 miles. Just flip on YT music and go get it

The other is a treadmill, 4% grade at 3.4 mph for a couple miles. I do that 2x week. The rest is free-weights 2x a week and I do 120 push ups a day and curl a 40# weight during the day when I'm on hold (it's next to my desk)
