I thought the square head lock bolt was supposed to be on TDC? Mine is located BDC and I don't know if I can even get to it with a wrench let alone get the twisted lock wire off? Is there something wrong? It's an early bus reduction gear transaxle on a 67 / 68 floorpan. Thanks [/quote]

One the Bus the bolts are accessed from below. Whoever swapped that Bug transaxle into your Bug didn't add a second set screw dimple on the top, but modified the shift coupler or shift rod instead.

I'll admit, I did that once to install a Bus nosecone on a tunnel transaxle so I could stick it in a '59 Bug. It does rather suck to get the set screw in or out.
