2 things generally cause that, and it's all shock loading related. like clutch dumps and wheelies (or being really really stuck and trying to 'rock it out') or a sudden stop under power. think of a baja hitting a jump at 50 but the driver never lifts off the pedal...once you hit the ground bad things happen _________________

Wow! I didn't know those 3 cylinders could do that! If it happened all at once and you didn't have your diff locked the other side is probably fine. If the damage is cumulative like from pushing snow or dirt and engaging forward drive while the tractor is still rolling backwards your other side is probably looking like a barber pole too. |

Much less, every time I walk into the dealer for something like that there's another freakin zero on the end of the price, good job! _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Okay so used the tractor to put the TDI in the shop. Chains to drag out of hibernation, rubber tire to push it in. Up on stands to replace clutch. Fun Fun Fun. _________________ "Albatross"! |

My very limited knowledge of modern VW's only tells me that in this situation, you need a BFH. _________________ You can't spell sausage without "USA"! |

Took it out along with hub as unit and used a press to push it out. _________________ "Albatross"! |

In some circles, a press counts as a BFH. Good work. _________________ You can't spell sausage without "USA"! |
