I just put some new wheels on my 70 and I am having a weird issue. The driver side wheels stick out past the fender and the passenger side are pretty much perfect. What could cause this?

It's possible but, there's not really any wrinkling or anything in any of the fender wells. _________________ Pics of my 1970 Satin Black Type 1 build |

I agree with Glenn. If someone has ever taken the body off, you COULD conceivably lose some alignment when returning it to the frame, especially if there has been some "repairs" done after restoration or collision. You MAY even have a completely different body switched in after a collision, which would explain the lack of damage in the body now. The body attaches front and back, and I am wondering if there was a slight shifting to the right when a body was re-joined with the frame.
The frame looks like a big capitol letter "I" when everything is stripped away; I am wondering if the frame was compressed with a collision and was pushed one way or another.
Speculation. _________________ China Clippers Official 1971 Super Beetle Project!

All 4 fenders are aftermarket from the same company replaced at the same time. Where would some good measurement points be to see if it’s the body or the pan that is the problem? _________________ Pics of my 1970 Satin Black Type 1 build |

I would take 2 measurements when looking at the fender from around 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock. Measure from the fender attaching panel out to the fender edge. Do it on both sides at the same place and see what you get. If these measurements are equal on both sides that would seem to indicate to me that the damage is frame and not body damage. good luck |

Looks like the passenger side fenders stick out about 1/2" further than the driver's side both front and back. On the front wheels I measured from the shock bolt to the outside of the tire and the driver's side was about an 1" wider, it should be the same right? maybe the trailing arms on the passenger are bent in a bit. _________________ Pics of my 1970 Satin Black Type 1 build |

Are you sure all your wheels have the same offset? Could be two wheels have more offset to go on the rear. I would measure all 4 wheels from the frame or some point on the suspension... _________________ ~ Paul

They are brand new Mobilwagen wheels that only come in one offset but that's a good thing I can check easily. _________________ Pics of my 1970 Satin Black Type 1 build |

Seeing how the tire is unevenly exposed/angled out towards the rear, there might be significant toe-in in the front suspension.
