Hi, I have a 1966 Bug, all original.
It is still 6 volt.
I have brand new cap and distributors around. Can I use the same cap and distributor that I used for my 12-volt 1969 Ghia or 1974 Thing in my 1966 Bug.
Thanks.

Cap doesn't care if it's 6v or 12v as long as it fits.

As noted above, the cap doesn't care if you're running 6v or 12v, it just needs to fit the distributor in question and be compatible with the rotor.

Now, can you use the distributor(s) you used in your Ghia or Thing in your '66 Bug? Sure. Most any distributor can be used, but that doesn't mean it'll work well or work correctly. The distributor needs to be paired with a carburetor it's designed to work with.

Yes.

The only thinks voltage specific on the engine are the generator, coil and electric choke.

And the voltage regulator.

Look at the 2 posts above yours. They were already mentioned.

Just in case, if what you're asking is, the same cap and rotor on my 1966 car with different later distributors then the answer is, no. Between 1966 and the mid 1970's distributors went through several design changes requiring different caps and rotors. They are not interchangeable.
