1972 German Spar Beetle 1200 engine upgrade

Hi everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my 1972 German Spar Beetle 1200 with a larger engine, so my question is really simple. I am able to locally source a 2.0 aircolled boxer (Type 4 engine) from a T2 transporter. Will this thing fit in my beetle without cutting the body? Will it work with it's gearbox (I plan to upgrade the clutch to 200mm ofc). I also plan to upgrade the cooling. Has anything like this been done before?

Do you guys think a 1600 DP (AD series) engine would be a more sensible choice?
