Seems straight forward but electrical has never been my strongsuit.

I have a 6v 3 prong in my '61. I picked up a 12v unit but the numbers don't mean anything to me. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

My beetles flashed is currently wired like the diagram.

Those are standard Bosch terminal numbers. Here is the translation into old VW wiring speak:

31 is a chassis ground. Since this flasher has a plastic housing it isn't grounded by being bolted to the car.

49 is the same as terminal 15. This is the power supply to the flasher.

49a is the flasher output, the same as terminal 54 on the original flasher. You also want to connect the dash indicator light wire, terminal K, to this terminal. Hopefully it will function correctly, some solid state flashers have a problem being partially grounded through the dash light when the turn signals are not in use.
