I had posted earlier about my type 3 revving to high. I have put the original air filter and hoses back on. The car starts fine but by the time i get to the back to check the engine it bogs down and dies, like it is not getting enough fuel.
Checked the injectors they are all working, new fuel pump, 28 psi when testing it
All new vacuum lines
Fresh fuel
new plugs, valves adjusted
Any suggestions or links to forums with information would be great. |

You might try looking thru the FI thread near the top (left side in the sticky topics) of the forum page, The trouble shooting guide part is written by Tram, and gives all sorts of good info that a first timer (or any FI owner) might need. You'll need a few tools too, but especially a multi meter that you can buy at Harbor Freight for about 7 bucks. You'll need it to check ohms and voltage. He even posted up some of VW's own trouble shooting.
The big keys to remember are 28 psi stable fuel pressure, 13+ volts when running (higher is better, as lower WILL cause it to run rich), and checking the temp sensors when both hot and cold. You can also check the injectors (w/a 9 volt battery) and the trigger points (in the base of the distributor). These are the common faults. Remember the FI system only has 18 wires to run it. I'd start by wiggling all wire ends and hoses to see if something came loose when installing the original air cleaner. _________________ Current Fleet:

Revs high indicates a vacuum leak, but now that it's attached and causing a problem maybe some hoses got swapped? I know when I got my 72 all the air hoses were wrong and I started it and the engine ran at essentially full throttle.
Once I got all that fixed and buttoned up, I fiddled with timing by both rotating the distributor and installing a new condenser. Also did lots of fiddling with the 15mm nut/flathead screw on the throttle body (idle adjustment).
If you suspect you need less air to accommodate for lean fuel mixtures then you turn the screw right. More air and you turn it to the left. In my case, my engine loved running rich (and still does) so I actually added more air to the equation and that helped.
For me, fixing any idling or running issues was always a bunch of random stabs in the dark with hoses and timing until I got it right enough. It's finnicky, but you'll get it. Hope something in this ramble helped. |

Yup, I agree 100% with that. The FI is more finnicky than carbs. Everything has to be right on FI, as you're not allowed any non-stock vacuum leaks. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
