Here’s my latest project a 70 Sqb. Plans are a general tidy up and sympathetic preservation. I’m working on the interior right now, being an ex California car it’s totally rust free but the interior is toast. I’ve made some custom carpets which are going in now and I’m waiting for the new seat cover sets to arrive from California.

Looks like mine! I have a '72 late style, also in orange. nearly same condition, very dry and straight outside, but trashed interior. Nearly every wire, rubber item, carpet, etc needed or needs replaced.
I'm curious about your carpet, did you make it or have it made? |

If you are from Vegas then I can well believe the condition of the interior.
I have a carpet guy who sourced the carpet for me, I then used the trashed originals as templates and cut them myself. I took the sections to a guy that professionally edges carpets ( I think it is called whipping) and he edged them for me for £60- $75. I had to cut some of the original hard plastic trim pieces from the og carpet and glue them on to the new sections with contact adhesive as his machine could not make all the tight turns. With the whipping and purchasing the carpet the whole set has cost me £105- $130. The benefit of this type of carpet is that it is very hardy and you car wash it with bleach if it gets stained. I’m really happy with the look and price 🤙 _________________ 1962 Gulf Blue Patina Deluxe Beetle

the stance and wheel setup looks good. Is that the ride height at which you found it? any rubbing? |

Yes I purchased the car with this wheel and suspension set up, rides really nice with no scrapping for a low car. Being a later model I guess the IRS helps with the ride quality. _________________ 1962 Gulf Blue Patina Deluxe Beetle

You can always trim or remove the bump stops. Mine is running lowered shocks so you don’t get the shocks bottoming out either. _________________ 1962 Gulf Blue Patina Deluxe Beetle

Making the most of the factory paint. This one is going to get a full on buff and wax job. |
interesting. I've been trying to decide the best way to preserve my patina look without allowing it to continue to get worse. I kind of like the oxidized, faded look and wouldn't want to add any shine to it.
Did you look at any patina preserving techniques, like boiled linseed oil, patina sauce, etc? |

I did consider other options but my preferred choice on this one is buffed patina. I’m happy to , on a regular basis, apply wax regularly. Living here in the U.K. where it rains from time to time it gives me the look and protection it requires. If the car had less paint I think I would have gone down the Patina Sauce route as I really like that look especially on cars with less paint. I have used boiled linseed on my split bus but only on the bare metal areas, as again I wanted shiny patina. It’s all a personal preference. _________________ 1962 Gulf Blue Patina Deluxe Beetle

Pretty pleased with myself today. The home made custom carpets have come out pretty sweet in my opinion, just how I had envisioned them.

Thats the interior finished as far as I’m going to take it. Pleased with the results bringing together stock and custom ideas.
