I need some help in locating a source for a windshield for my 1997 EVC. I am working with Safelite who told me they could source an OEM windshield. I had their tech come out and remove the windshield so I could deal with rust. Finished my work and called them to schedule the install and they told me they can’t get a windshield. Opps. They are supposed to be looking for one but cancelled my install appointment. Anyway possibly too much info, but wondered if any replaced a windshield and had a line on a source. I see that VW Canada has them available online anyway. Need to call to confirm. Thanks!

They canceled your appointment because Safelite does not, by policy, install windshields on known rust problems. Even repaired ones. They won't do it.

They're just giving you an excuse. Go find a small body shop or independent installer who will not be afraid of your (former) rust problem.

If you can't find a cheap shop (my local cheapo shop is simply called "Low Price Auto Glass"), call around to a dealer--any dealer of any make--and ask them who they recommend for glass installs. The dealers never do glass themselves anymore--they almost always hire it out to a local specialist, and then markup their customers 100% on the final sale. I'm not even joking.

I guess that is possible although they agreed to pull the glass initially so the rust could be addressed and agreed to come out to install after the work was completed. They said they had the windsheild ordered and between when they removed the glass and I called to come install, they seem to have lost their source. I am sure I can find an installer. THe challenge is finding the glass and any help is appreciated. Bus Depot says no longer available and updated their website. Thye indicated that I would probably need to find used glass. Arrgh.

Its been some years, but I had my windshield replaced by safelite, after repairing rust around my windshield frame. It's held up well so far.
