Got these at Woodburn, and attached note said 'shoulder mounts found in 62 bus.' Factory, or not? At least aftermarket that someone recognizes as common for that use?
I am assuming 'not' but am checking in case they are, and someone is looking for a set. I bought them to do something else requiring a D ring...

Never seen those, so would say aftermarket. Super cool!
Manufactured hundreds of thousands "D" rings at a business I worked for, to be sold to the US military. Went from bending round bar into "D" shape on multiple punch press setups then needed to be welded, to punching the rings out and shaping them with round edges on another punch press setup, then tumble to remove final sharp edges. Also punched out the straps, bent into shape and closed on the "D"ring on another punch press, and countersunk the fastener hole on drill press. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

They sort of look like fancy pickup bed or boat tie downs, really neat, but not meant for a VW IMO. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

The teardrop thing on the back definitely did not scream "VW" but wanted to make sure it wasn't an accessory thing people want. My plan was to use part in the treasure chest as a tiedown mount - or Eric can sell me some of the D-rings he used to make if he has some laying around as souvenirs!
I want to store some items in t/c on longer trips, but don't want a floor jack or whatever sliding around and denting my doors, or popping them open and launching onto the highway. Replacement floor has wells for mounting seat brackets, so gonna put em to use. _________________ Craig K

If you are sure you want some that is fine. The "D" rings we have were the rejects not good enough to sell, but will work fine. They are in raw steel form, having not gone off to the plater for the military spec dark zinc coating. So at the least they will need to be cold galvanized primered and over that a color coating of your favorite color, or have them plated. Some as is now have surface rust.
If you are really interested, PM us. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
