Identify Turn Signal Switch

This turn signal switch does not fit around the steering column that came with my '57 Oval bug. The right side of the housing fits the column perfectly, but the back of the left side is not shaped to wrap around the column. Am I not looking at installation correctly or is this the wrong switch?

are there any markings inside either part? I'm sure the ones on vws had a straight stalk and I suspect the switch side and clamp side are for different cars - surely to clamp a column it would need to have matching diameters? Confused

Both sides of the housing are marked SWF and I find VW marks on the left side of the housing and on the switch itself.

I'm starting to suspect this switch is for a transporter, not for a bug. And it has a bent arm.
