Is there any downside to using rod journal cranks reground to third or fourth cut in high performance applications (6000 rpm plus]?

Smaller diameter means less surface speed at the bearing. A good thing for higher RPM.

Thicker bearing shells aren't terrible.

Downside would be loosing surface heat treat depth. Just like a case that has been line bored 3-4 times, it might have other hidden issues from a previous hard life.
