Hello again,
72 Superbeetle horn not working again. I have a fuse diagram that shows the horn is connected to #3 fuse but then I go on youtube that shows it going to the left headlight? Does anyone out there have an accurate fuse diagram because I am confused...like always. This was working fine about a week ago and I'm trying to find which fuse actually controls the horn. Thank you in advance... _________________ 72 VW Super Beetle

Recommend that you read through this post first, to understand how the horn system wiring and related components work: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10175381
Then refer to the factory wiring diagram for 1972 model year:

The fuse diagram from the Tech Section (posted above by baldessariclan) shows the fuse #11 (from the left/driver side) for the horn and for the brake light switches/brakes.
I'd turn the key to "run" position and see if one of the two wires at the horn itself is getting voltage, and/or check the brake light operation. If it's truly fuse #11 blowing, then you'll need to isolate whether horn or brake circuit is the reason. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Don't have any burned out fuses...took out #3 and #11, fuses look good, put the dialectric grease on the tabs, still nothing. I am getting 12v at #11 with the key on, nothing on #3... _________________ 72 VW Super Beetle |

I have discovered that the fuse in #12 position controls the horn, Instrument lights, fuel gauge, turn signals and brake lights. So, out of two different Fuse diagrams, neither one is actually correct! And, while I was driving the car today, the fuel gauge, turn signals, instrument lights decided to go out...which led me to fuse #12. Now the horn works also. When restoring my 72, I never did rewire the car, it still has original wires... _________________ 72 VW Super Beetle |

Excellent - glad you got it working!
Your setup as described does still seem a bit odd, though -- e.g. I've never seen factory wiring where the instrument lights are protected by one of the fuses - ? They normally get their power directly via connection to the headlight switch. Thus am a bit suspicious that a PO may have gotten a bit "creative" with the wiring at some point, before you got the car. That's just a SWAG on my part, though -- I've been wrong before... _________________ 1971 Standard Beetle — fairly stock / driver

Some of the '71 & '72 fuse box diagram from VW are wrong. When VW switched to the 12-fuse fuse box the parking lights were moved to fuse #1 & #2. Any diagrams that indicate these fuses are for anything other than parking lights is wrong. When wrong, the labels are almost reversed but not quite.
Here is the '71 Owner Manual page that is wrong:
This page from the '72 Owner Manual is correct:
Here is the '71-'72 12-fuse box diagram which is wrong:
Here is a corrected fuse box diagram from a user:
