I would like to see if The Samba Community would start making recommendations (or warnings about) Mechanic that you have had personal experience with? In the spirit of The RoadHause.com. He did a great job, but his lists are now becoming obsolete. We need a new list for enthusiasts but mostly for travelers who need service while on a journey.

If such a comprehensive list exists, please guide me to it?

Thanks, Wetwillie05

Learn to work on it yourself, no one will do a better job.

And then when you go to a car show and are asked "who built your car" you show them your 2 hands and say "I did it".

Well that is not helpful at all! I ask that you keep your peace about this unless you have a more helpful suggestion?

I do know how to work on these vehicles, Maybe you didn't notice how many I own?

This idea is for others that may need help while on the road, far away from their tools and proper facilities.

Because we (vwsurfari.com) have a good web presence, I get calls often from people out in the field needing help in "Podunk" and using Roadhaus used to be a great way of giving folks direction to someone who could help, as well as making sure the mechanics ratings were good (or bad!).

Sadly RoadHaus info has become dated because it no longer is curated by the gentleman.

Hopefully others here on thesamba will chime in eventually with some good feedback and maybe even someone who will curate this idea into a new list and format.

God Bless every one!
Bill

A while back I needed someone to do an alignment on my VW. I wound up taking it to the local Porsche dealership. They have an old guy who works on the vintage Porsches which are similar. He only works one day a week.

Worth a shot.

Our local Jeep club reaches out to other clubs all over the country with your exact question. What we have done is maintain a list of off road clubs that can be contacted and are willing to help if someone is in need of help. Just like you pointed out we can all work on our stuff but I don't travel with a mobile shop. So might try your local VW club that may have some type of contact list. Sadly a VW community in NM does not exist. But if your rolling though Albuquerque NM and need a hand, PM me. I am not a shop but have 45 years of busted knuckles working on anything and everything mechanical.

That is what the Buyer & Seller Feedback forum is already there for:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewforum.php?f=14
It is mainly for parts sellers but also contains shop reviews.
