I am no expert, but I would trial fit the top piece that goes on the roof first, and then find where the bottom is by aligning parallel with your windshield.

Just make sure you take a couple of shots of whiskey before you drill holes into your split Very Happy

I copied this from Kabriolett.com a year or two ago when I had my split,
This isn't the same antenna as yours but hopefully it will help.

"ok guys, hope you can help with some pics. will be installing an NOS Hirschmann red tip center mount antenna and need some close up pics of the antenna where it mounts near the hood area. i believe this is the same antenna that was installed on the Andy's '51 (when he owned it that is).

as previously mentioned the antenna is NOS and will need to be "bent" to have the correct curve of the car to get mounted on the roof standoff.

if you could post some pics here or send them to my email address i would be most grateful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In that I bought a center mount antenna from Andy some time back, I was also needful of knowing it's mounting location. This info was taken from Andy's '51.

If you measure back from the edge of the cowl at the hood, it is 2 3/8 inches to the front edge of the Hirschmann antenna's base.
I do hope this will be a helpful reference to you, sorry I don't have any photos to offer though."

i have been inspecting the car before drilling holes , and my next dumb question is : is the antenna hole centered between the 2 windshield wiper holes ?? should i take the 2 holes as a reference ??

i know that windshield wiper holes on later cars are not centered ...how about early ones ??

thanks a lot

Ricardo

Hello, does anybody have the measurement for the center of the mounting hole. I do not have the antenna yet, but going to paint soon.

Thank you. Scott.

most of these Hirschmanns i have seen are not exactly specific to any car , but more one size fits all , by using about a 1 inch section at the base that is bendable , that part or portion of of the antenna is solid metal not hollow like the actual antenna its made to bend , this solid part you bend to fit your car ..i clicked on your antenna pic , i couldnt be sure but it looks like it have that bendable lower portion ?????

Bosch and Hirschman did similar in this way , you have to bend to fit your windshield angle .

now this is not my bug but a pic i have showing the Bosch blue tip mounted up , showing the bend . i have similar here but not good pics .

ya , its nerve wracking bending your expensive NOS antenna , but it bends pretty easy and isnt that hard . its deciding where to drill the hole in the cowel that is hard . once you do that your committed to that bend ... ill try n find a pic of my bug that i did a while back now

not a great pic but here is my Bosch installed . i kinda remember the directions were in German so i kinda had to wing it Smile i tried to sorta have the antennea at the same angle as the windshield , its kinda tight as you need to make sure the wipers dont interfere with it .

i have seen long n short stand offs .......i think only the short ones are aplicable here for split bugs .
