| Stroked 1800 with DP heads, SB2280 cam, 34 PICT and heater boxes. I'm interested in the quietest, stockest looking exhaust that will still take advantage of the added torque. Obviously I'm building a peppy grocery getter here, not a race car. Any thoughts on best exhaust? Extra points for actual experience. Thanks Sambans. |

One of the smaller vintage speed mufflers is exactly perfect for what you are wanting. The 1 1/2” ss143 with be the quietest, and it will help out with midrange torque.
It is also one of the few with a more correct manifold heat option, which if you are planning to keep the stock carb, you should 100% add the manifold heat option.

I have fitted the same this year to a fairly stock 1600DP as I was getting sick of rusting exhausts. It’s over kill for the engine but looks clean and tidy, is not noisy and opens up the top end a little too. I find the engine more happy to Rev.
I have heater boxes and a centre mount carb and the heat to the manifold is not quite as good. Also if you go for a VS do yourself a favour and buy some copper exhaust nuts and stainless studs. Given the cost of the exhaust they really could have afforded some decent mounting hardware. If you use their hardware you will find you have seized nuts and studs a while down the road when you need to take the exhaust off. _________________ 1975 South African Fleetline |
