I need to remove the adhesive from the "tunnel" area in the center of the inside floors
old glue and tar board residue.
What can I use that wont remove any or too much of the original black paint under it?
Laquer thinner? (I've used that while Land Rover mechanic to remove exterior trim that was double taped on the body..wit no loss of paint) _________________ 1958 Beetle orig. 6 volt 36 hp engine, body & pan, Black w/red/off white inter., Orig. VW wood roof rack and orig. rear luggage rack.

3M Adhesive remover.
It works like a charm. _________________ Glenn

Heat gun may help with the tar board.
Out of curiosity, why worry so much about keeping the paint? _________________ Email changed to [email protected] |

I was having a discussion with Peter Cook of the VWC earlier this week about such aspects as this in regards to concours judging at car shows and overal preservation for the hobby
I'm interested in keeping the paint because if I can clean it up it will not have to be repainted, and i the end it will be a nice "original" detail if I can make it look nice.
Yes its going to be under a rug and or mat, but I can pul lit back for "inspection" if needed at a show or if selling it.
Same thing under the rear seat. I am going to clean up the heater boxes but keep there original paint.
Yes, again its a silyl detail but with a little extra work I can add "value" to the car and not have to repaint anything.
ANYTIME you can "save" something that original to a car or any antique it saves its history and adds to its value.
In the case of these cars too many are not totally original any more. Thats lost history.
Check out the '59 thats for sale here, a green one for 2 grand...his website abotu the car shows photos with cool aspects that are original. _________________ 1958 Beetle orig. 6 volt 36 hp engine, body & pan, Black w/red/off white inter., Orig. VW wood roof rack and orig. rear luggage rack.

Glenn beat me to it. I was going to suggest 3M adhesive remover also. It comes in a pretty good size can, and works great. Goof-Off might work well, but I never see it in a size that would make it worthwhile. _________________ \X/ Delaware Dave

Someone used some kind of contact cement to glue carpet and the headliner in my oval. I have learned that nothing will take this stuff off except aircraft paint remover. I have tried acetone, laquer thinner,M.E.K, 3M adhesive remover, and a big wire brush on a big angle grinder with little or no results. _________________ 57 oval
