• Removed driver's upper ball joint, the boot was loose so I
suspected it might be damaged: |
| October 14, 2002 | • I took the car to be professionally aligned but the local mechanic looked at everything and informed me that my upper ball joints were shot and the car could not aligned. |
| October 10, 2002 | • Played with front end alignment - I noticed the lower ball joint adjustment screws were not pointing forward like they should so I straightened them then tried to do a guesstimate home alignment to see if I could get the car rolling normally until I can get it professionally aligned. Not much luck. |

driver's front brake drum turned, the folks on Napa liked my Bus so they did it for free • Attempted to grind all the brass off my oil sump drain plate and break the bolt free, a total waste of time. • Picked up another set of German front brake hoses, these ones look correct. |

a couple hours cleaning the front end • Greased front end • Noticed my parts place gave me the wrong front rubber hoses, crap. • Cleaned inside of front fenders of packed-in dirt • Installed new Bosch Super plugs, noticed old plugs were all gapped too small • Set points gap and timing • Checked fan belt deflection, noticed fan belt is the original(?) Continental with 311 part # • Removed air cleaner, drained and cleaned air cleaner, all hardware and hoses, filled with new oil, reinstalled • Removed, cleaned, checked, and set choke • Set valves to .20mm per owner's manual, #3 and #4 were off (.25mm) • Adjusted carb. idle and mixture • Checked spark plug wires • Drained oil, it ran out like water, noticed drain plate has the drain plug welded on:  • Checked driver's side heater box flap, it sticks open a little • Fixed driver's seat do it would slide, it was stuck on a bunch of Canadian coins |

Disassembled front brakes to check things out. Noticed driver's
front already has a new rubber brake line on it, so I'm not sure why it
was locking up. On driver's front, noticed one wheel cylinder has
been replaced with some no-name cylinder. Both wheel cylinders have
been rebuilt at some time with shoddy quality parts, the rubber seals are
rock hard. Front brake shoes are wasted, lower shoe was running
metal-on-metal with the brake drum and brake drum is scored.
 • Replaced one wheel cylinder rubber seal with NOS unit. Plan to replace no-name wheel cylinder with NOS piece. Will try to have brake drum turned. • Tightened rear license plate and reinstalled rear hatch trim panel with original clips that I hand-polished. |
