78 VW Bus bay window daycamper Price: $6000
Had this bus since 1999. Drove it from CA in 2000. Shortly thereafter motor gave out and I had a local shop build one with all new parts and solid lifters. Set me back $2700 at the time. Last problem was a broken cam sprocket/gear and it has developed a little rattle sound in the motor since that was fixed. Has decent compression and runs out well on the highway-this bus is a driver and has been garaged for the last 19 years.
Most recent repairs include:
New Michelin Defenders.
New back brakes - cylinders, shoes and hubs
New fuel injectors
New fuel pump and filter
New front door panels with Empi crank handles.
Wrecked front end in 2004 - New front clip
Z-Bed is in good condition
All of the other camping stuff is long gone. Still has breaker box and can be plugged in though.
Don't know the engine size but it is the stock fuel injected engine for this model.
Has a recent engine compartment seal.
Paint is original and going away.
As you can see from the pictures there is very little surface rust here and there and there is no rust underneath. Includes a new after market back bumper (not as thick as the original) still wrapped in plastic.
