This is the side channel from a Vanagon. I used the other side to repair the bottom channel on my 1980 which had some badly rotted sections. Yes, you can straighten the curved areas out to do the un-curved runs. The top was rotted also, but I obtained replacement pieces for that. I didn't do it, but I see no reason why you could not use this piece to repair the top channel too.
