1961 Silver 5 Millionth Beetle Factory VW Coin Price: $100

Very rare silver "5 millionth" commemorative factory VW coin from 1961. The face says "FUNF MILLIONEN VOLKSWAGEN 1945-1961". The backside has a portrait of Heinz Heinrich Nordhoff. Apparently these were only given out to VW dealers, workers and employees. The coin measures 40mm across (about the size of a silver dollar). It's marks 1000 just below the 1961 stamping. Nice original patina - never been cleaned. Definitely a cool collectible.
I found a copy of a press release on-line that states : "Five Million Volkswagens! - To mark this unique success of the European car industry the Bavarian State Mint has coined a Commemorative Metal. It shows the world-famous Volkswagen and Director General Prof. Dr. Heinrich Nordhoff who has been responsible for the reconstruction of the Volkswagenwerk. On December 4th, the five millionth Volkswagen was produced."
Price is only $100 USD + $12 air mail to the USA with tracking. International will be more.
