1991 VW Vanagon Syncro Porsche b32 / 996 911 Price: 14500
|
Hello fellow VW and Porsche enthusiasts! I have something special to post: unfortunately, this Vanagon build is looking for a new home.
What's included in the sale:
- 1991 VW Vanagon GL (without original powertrain)
- 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Parts car
- Extra parts for the project
I picked up this VW van along with a donor Porsche 911 car a few years back with hopes of finishing the build of this VW T3 Porsche B32-inspired Sport Van.
*** Check out a similar built 996 van that's up for sale on Europe for $150,000:

Few month ago there was THE ORIGINAL VW/Porsche B32 that came up for sale for a cool price tag of $400k:

Now, about the van: it’s a low mileage, 1991 VW Vanagon GL that was originally equipped with an automatic transmission, A/C, power windows, and power mirrors. The body has about 62k miles on it and comes with a clean CA title. It's a CA van so theres no rust!
The original build was done by the 405 AUTO European Cars Specialists shop in Santa Monica, CA (they had nice reviews: https://reviews.birdeye.com/405-auto-european-cars-specialists-156042320675924 ). The shop was closing and moving, and that’s when I acquired the van. The idea for the project was to use the full powertrain from a 99 991 Carrera 4 and swap it into a clean Vanagon, turning it into a $100k+ van. In the past few years, I've seen a couple of VW T3 with 911 swaps sell on Mobile.de from $90k to $125k! However, those were just RWD and NOT AWD vans.
Currently, the Porsche powertrain is mounted in the van along with a custom-built driveshaft to the front 911 diff. The front differential is mounted on a Vanagon Syncro subframe. This set up also allows a wider range of big brake upgrade options, including based on Audi and Porsche parts.
There are a few extra Syncro parts, including from Burley Motorsports (BMS):
-HD Front Lower Control Arms (~$1000)
-BMS Front Adjustable Upper Control Arms ($990)
-BMS 16" Custom Rear Trailing Arm (one, RH, $1400)
-Steering Rack Package ($625)
-One NOS Syncro Spindle Uprights with Hub ($600)
-and a few other things
The donor car is a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (996), 3.4L, Auto, AWD, Convertible, with a salvage CA title. At this point, it's a shell with doors, wiring harnesses, some suspension in it, and only a few interior components left. No headlights or taillights.
The 911 (996) engine was completely rebuilt by the 405 AUTO shop and has been increased in size to a displacement of 3.6L.
All in all, it’s a project that’s been halfway done with a great bunch of parts that come with it. It will require a significant amount of work, including engine and dash wiring, suspension, brakes, axles, and all the other customization. But I think it will be so worth it in the end! There is so much potential, and there are so many ways to customize the build. It’s definitely a great candidate for a show van or for SEMA.
All the modifications on this van were carried out by the original builder. When I saw this project for sale, I was highly interested and wanted to finish my own dream 911-powered Vanagon. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to obtain additional funding to finish the build correctly. As a result, I would rather offer this opportunity to someone else than see it sitting and gathering dust.
The van located in Grants Pass, OR

I'm looking for cash sale or part trade (would be interested on VW truck / pickup /caddy)
Thanks for checking it out!
