Everyone knows less is more when it comes to absolute collectible models. This is a real model 235 sunroof kombi. It lived some of its life in the Florida Capital as a Mobil bar doing catering events. Vending out of it based on the early interior it was found with. I’ve owned it since 2005 when it got picked up I did a full mechanical restoration for it being lowered with non factory installed components and while enjoying it I restored the original drivetrain. There is a build thread to see what kind of life it’s had during my ownership. Every time I did something I did it with the purpose of preserving the life it lived and not to restore it to a body filler shiney paint bus. All the metal repairs were done by Mark Rafferty of the The Bus Transfer. All very dialed and very clean work as always. It does have f cargo floor rust.
The transmission(when it was installed) is a complete overhauled split case with all new bearings, new first gear, reverse and synchros. The front beam was fully restored with NOS bushings reamed with a factory tool and all German parts used. It’s running original drum brakes all around and stock powder coated / painted 15’s wrapped with 6.70x15 Firestone bias ply tires from Coker’s.
The engine is a 58’ 36hp with low miles on the lower end and pistons. The heads started sinking a valve so I pulled the engine from the bus it was pushing and have decide to stick a set of rebuilt heads on it and freshening all parts. New complete exhaust including new J tubes welded in to heater boxes correct BR8 mechanical cast iron distributor fresh from Ed Fall. Restored Carb with zinc plating.rebuilt fuel pump. Restored Generator. Heat riser intake is clear annd operating as it should. New thermostat. New clutch and Pressure plate and will be finished up with a few weeks. All the tin including crank start nut and tin were powdered fresh too.
All seat covers are Matt Millers (RIP) and the front was actually the very first cover Matt ever made and he came to Florida to install it during Bulli Brigade.
Sunroof cover is the correct Azure blue recently installed by Mark Lapriore
Steering box was rebuilt when put back on the road also by Wolfgang.
Correct marking on all lights K3235 lenses date code is correct on speedo and 1 key operates all locks.radio block off in place.
I own a media blast business and all parts like beam, axle tubes torsion arms and plates are all powder coated satin black.
The bus is not a 100% rust free bus but still has factory installed belly pans AND all original long rockers and nose. Very rare these days.
Probably one of the most sorted and correct buses of this era and and you can also bet the 23 window owners would tell you they would rather own this one.
