Repro '52-54 Beck Fuel Gauge Kit Pre A 356 Porsche Price: $312.50
|
No I do not clean out those copper tubes on Beck mechanical fuel tank senders. Unfortunately I need to do all my work in a clean shop that needs to stay completely clean because I build show quality precision made instruments for $100K valued cars in it, and I can't afford to risk permanently contaminating my clean and pleasant smelling workspace with rank smelling fuel sludge. Add to that the potential for legal trouble in the case of a fire or explosion arising from me recertifying a cheaply made, unreliable and dangerous antique pressurized type of fuel tank fitting that hasn’t been installed on cars for 70 years for those reasons, and I'm just not going to do it for anyone at any price, no matter how many times you ask me to. Sorry.
Because I'm working with a finite supply of German made components which haven't been made since 1999 when the original tooling was sold off for scrap, all of the components I have in my inventory are reserved for my own gauge projects. Accordingly, I do not do gauge rebuild or repair service for people. No exceptions. If you own a Porsche restoration shop, it doesn't matter. Sorry.
Selling new made in USA all electric reproduction 1952 to 1954 Porsche Pre A Beck fuel gauge kit, with sending unit, for 6 Volt and 12 Volt Porsches. The gauge kit is universal, and it works in 6 Volt and 12 Volt Porsches interchangeably. The gauge is assembled in USA from all vintage German made VDO branded gauge parts dating from the early 1970's. The glass lens is curved just like on the original Beck gauges. This is a show quality reproduction gauge. The gauge is being sold direct from the builder. The 6 Volt light bulb in the light socket can be swapped out with an included standard B7 base 12 Volt speedometer light bulb if the gauge is going to be installed in a 12 Volt Porsche. The gauge comes with a full wiring harness and wiring diagram. This gauge fits into a 52mm diameter hole. Yes the gauge can be mounted in a reproduction Motometer steering column gauge holder. The fuel tank sender fits 1951 to 1954 Porsche fuel tanks with 6 bolt flange. Because the part of the sender that houses the circuit board is 1.5 inches wide, it will be necessary for you to split the base plate from the sender, feed the bottom and stem part of the sender in through your filler neck, fish it up with a coat hanger and shoehorn it up through the inner hole of your fuel tanks mounting flange, then screw the base plate back on, then install the six mounting bolts and torque them down. If you have a factory issued Porsche universal replacement gas tank with the adapter ring with six mounting studs, it will be necessary for you to file small corners out of the inner hole of the adapter ring, because the stem of the sender has a footprint of approximately 3/4"x3/4" square.
It is also possible for me to build a gauge that is 12 Volt only with a 12 Volt mechanism that does not need an in-line 12V to 6V voltage dropping resistor, if that's the type of gauge you want.
FAQ: Q: "Will this fit in a reproduction Motometer steering column gauge holder?"
A: "Yes."
Q: "Will this work in my Nineteen Sixty Something VW Beetle?"
A: "No."
Q: "Do you do gauge repair service for people?"
A: "No."
Shipping:
USA: $17.50
Canada: $45.00
No Paypal or any other online payments.
Subtract $10.00 from the total for the cost of a Priority Mail envelope so you can track your check all the way to the address I provide if you are located in the USA. If you are located in Canada, tell me how much a tracked mailer to USA costs, and I'll ask my bank how much they would charge for the currency conversion. If it's not too much, I may or may not subtract it from the total.
