This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 is a 21-window Sunroof Deluxe example that was refurbished prior to the acquisition in 2000. It is finished in blue and white over gray and blue cloth upholstery and is powered by a 1,835cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes safari front windows, a retractable white fabric sunroof, dual side mirrors, lowered suspension, 15″ Phone Dial-style wheels, skylight windows, and dual Weber carburetors. This Type 2 bus is now offered with a Volkswagen Classic certificate and a clean California title.
Originally Tizian Red with a Beige Grey roof, the bus was repainted in blue and white under previous ownership. The seller notes that the front floor pans and rear wheel wells were replaced at that time. Exterior details include chrome-finished bumpers, safari-style windshield panels, dual side mirrors, window tint, a sliding white fabric sunroof, quarter panel vents, and eight skylight windows. Blemishes include chips in the paint on the front end, a scratch below the right taillight, and scratches and dents on the right-side rear doors and rocker panel. The door locks are said to not match the keys that are provided in the sale.
Black 15″ Phone Dial-style alloy wheels wear Porsche-branded center caps and are mounted with 175/55 Continental ContiEcoContact EP front and 205/60 Falken Ziex ZE512 rear tires. The suspension has been lowered and stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
The seats, door panels, and cabin walls are upholstered in gray cloth with blue inserts. An embossed floral pattern has been applied throughout the cabin, and additional features include gray carpets, machined front door handles, a fire extinguisher, hinged rear windows, lap belts, and luggage bars mounted on the hatch windows and on the rear-most side windows. The seller notes that the clock does not work, and the headliner is stained.
The white two-spoke steering wheel features a gold Wolfsburg crest and sits ahead of an 80-mph VDO speedometer. The fuel gauge does not work. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 97k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement air-cooled 1,835cc flat-four is equipped with dual Weber carburetors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes that the reduction boxes have been removed and the transmission pops out of reverse intermittently.
The included Volkswagen Classic certificate lists the factory colors and initial delivery in Los Angeles on May 31, 1966.
