VW T1 Split Screen Camper (1962) Price: 45950
|
This 1962 Volkswagen T1 split screen camper is restored to the highest specification and quality with lots of extra special equipment.
Possibly this example can tick all the boxes in terms of desirability for any collector/tourer or indeed family.
Originally an Australian import (not built in Australia) shipped there directly from Germany.
The engine unit is a 1.8 litre with two Dell’Orto twin carbs that are a better option to the Weber counterparts and matched with a custom-made exhaust system. Gearbox is a Freeway Flyer which benefits from a longer final drive ratio that helps for comfortable motorway cruising.
Also fitted with lowered adjustable beam, with a CSP disc brake conversion that makes this VW surprisingly well mannered for a 61 year old Split Screen. Wheels are off set VW air-cooled steels with chromed hubcaps.
Going to the interior you find top-quality built units from a combination of birch ply and walnut – no stick-on veneer – with all joints dowelled and glued to provide a strong and slick-looking finish.
Each of the sections are mutually supported, meaning that wasn’t necessary to add any extra fixings to the original structure of the VW.
To complement the top quality fixtures the interior is trimmed to match the Turkis Green exterior.
Fully restored during the 2000’s finished in 2009. An example with an exceptional level of work turned into something that worth seeing. Featured in many magazines and articles.
