JPM "The Best Cam" Price: 655 SHPD

This grind has no part number. The locals call it "The Best Cam". It has a 6,200 rpm ceiling with stock 1.1:1 rockers, lifts to .412", is ground on a 107° lobe center, and has 239° duration at .050. The compression should be set around 9.0:1 on 91 pump fuel. The best part about this (and any JPM grind) is that it requires FAR less spring pressure than a comparable shelf cam. Users are running factory spec springs, as long as they run a titanium retainer and factory pushrods. The reason is due to its' asymmetrical design that allows the valves to seat gently, without spring surge.
The powerband is broad enough to use on engines as small as 1584cc.
If you choose to run 1.25s (.468" lift), a single JPM Oteva spring is recommended with a stiffer aluminum pushrod like Smith Bros" 3/8" or any 7075 alloy pushrod. In this instance, the powerband's potential will peak slightly higher at about 6,500 rpm.
All factory aircooled VW cams were asymmetrical. When we started copying grinds from domestic cars 70 years ago, we moved away from asymmetrical grinds. The factory knew 80 years ago what few seem to know today: to combat spring surge and use less spring pressure, you need a cam with a gentler closing rate than opening rate.
The cam comes with Cam Shield, Cam Shield lube, and lifters with a matched crown taper that was reground in Sweden.
