This Split left the Wolfsburg factory on September 3, 1951. Two days later, Johann Meier, the first owner, took possession of it at the VW Pillenstein dealership in Fürth, Germany, near Nuremberg. Johann Meier lives in Fürth. He used his ladybug on a daily basis for 13 years, in summer and winter from the autumn of 1951 to October 1965. At that time, the rhythm of use of the Beetle changed, in fact from 1965 to 1974, the VW only drove in spring and summer. Thus, the Beetle systematically leaves the road every autumn, as evidenced by the original registration document. This preservation during all these years allows the Split to remain in a superb condition with its original mechanics. Then, in 1974, the Beetle was sold to a collector. Despite an extraordinary conservation, he nevertheless had the Split restored between 1976 and 1980 where the right front wing was changed. This is the only part of the car that is not original. This collector never registered the car in his name and after 2 years spent in his garage, the Split even went off the road for good on April 21, 1976. It remained in this private collection in Bad Oyenhausen for almost 40 years. In May 2013, the collector decided to sell the Split via a friend who owned a classic car consignment shop in Lohne, Germany. I bought this Split on December 4, 2014. It is 100% matching number, Body, Chassis, Engine, Gearbox. In view of the history, it certainly has 124000 km originally, but not verifiable. It runs perfectly well with its original engine. The CSP abarth exhaust give to the beetle a superb sound. This car is a real driving pleasure. Regularly maintained since it has been in my possession. Major maintenance: Change of engine radiator gaskets 01/2015, Change of SPI engine and gearbox gaskets + new clutch disc in 06/2018, New 16' AVON tyres in 05/2019, Installation of an original BOSCH circuit breaker in 05/2020.
As clean above as it is below! No rust! The bodywork presents very well with a few rare signs of wear over time. . The right rear wing has a few dots in the paint (see photo) ... but nothing serious...
