The Porsche 356 A 1600 Convertible D is the successor to the 356 Speedster. The Convertible Ds were produced between August 1958 and September 1959 in just 1,331 units.
This model was handmade by the German coachbuilder Drauz and is a more luxurious and practical successor to the minimalist Speedster.
Features of the Porsche 356 A 1600 Convertible D
Engine: 1600 cc air-cooled boxer engine with 75 hp, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.
Weight: Approximately 950 kg, making it a light and agile sports car.
Exterior: Independent bumpers with bumper guards, curved one-piece windshield, teardrop taillights with integrated turn signals, and a fabric hood with a flexible plastic rear window.
Interior: Deluxe trim with wind-up windows, higher windshield, and a more comfortable interior than the Speedster.
Production: Of the 1,331 units produced, an estimated 47% remain, making the model extremely rare.

History and Popularity
The Convertible D was introduced as a premium version of the Speedster, offering more comfort and practicality. Although externally very similar to the Speedster, it offers a higher degree of usability for everyday use. The name "Convertible D" was only established later; the first 14 units had the inscription "Speedster D" on the front fender.
