Finding a classic Volkswagen Beetle from the 1960s with original paint, low mileage, and full documentation is becoming increasingly rare—especially if you're after an authentic, well-preserved example. Fortunately, this early 1965 model is exactly that.
Finished in the uncommon and highly desirable L572 Panama Beige, this Beetle retains many unique, one-year-only features exclusive to the 1965 model year. Even more impressively, these original details remain intact, making this car a genuine time capsule.
We are 99.9% confident this is a matching-numbers vehicle and it comes with extensive documentation, including the original 1965 bill of sale. Notably, the first owner traded in their Oval Window Beetle to acquire this very car. The odometer reads 26,013 km, which we estimate to be 126,013 original kilometers, based on the following:
- Exceptional condition of the interior: seats, steering wheel, shift knob, and pedal rubbers are all original and well-preserved.
- The most recent Swedish inspection (MOT) dates back to 1976.
- The car has had only two registered owners.
- All original paperwork and service documentation has been meticulously maintained.
Originally delivered in Sweden, this Beetle still carries its original Swedish documentation and is adorned with several period-correct Swedish details. It received Dinitrol rust protection early in its life, contributing significantly to its current condition. The chassis and wheel wells were also treated with anti-stone chip coating. One area (rear right fender) had a drainage point blocked by this coating, leading to a minor thin spot (visible in the photos). Other than this, there are no signs of significant rust.
And yes—this Beetle appears to still wear 100% original paint. Initially, we suspected it may have been repainted externally due to its fantastic condition, but after professional polishing and closer inspection (including visible front-end stone chips), we are nearly certain the paint is factory original.
As with any 60-year-old classic, the car shows signs of age—minor wear, light repairs, and patina that add to its authenticity and charm. Mechanically, it has been fully checked and runs smoothly, making it ready for enjoyable and worry-free driving.
The car currently has EU-approved Swedish documents. In the Netherlands, it is exempt from road tax due to its age.
