History:
2014
Purchased in July 2014, original engine. 108K original miles. Bought it from the 2nd owner (afaik). Original owner was from San Diego, and a surfer. Hence some of the surface rust in the usual places. Van had been repainted in the past, but only the exterior and not pro. That said the van still looked great.
- New canvas poptop tent and all rubber seals, fixed luggage drains
- Rebuilt front shift linkage and counter bushing

Comments:
For those that don't know, the Westy can sleep up to 4 (2 adults up top, two small kids down below as it is narrower due to cabinetry). I got original used and color-matched head rests off Samba.com for the back-seat bench, and had them custom installed at an upholstery shop after I also bought a later-model bench to scavenge interior parts. I then had shoulder strap seatbelts installed for the backseat.
I also installed a steel bracket so I could create an additional point of security for kid car seats. I used to put my kids car seats back there before they were big enough to use the 3-point shoulder seat-belts safely.
There is a 2nd battery installed below the driver's seat and there is a Krueger Power Inverter hidden in the cabinetry below the stove's drawer. There is gorgeous LED lighting in the interior for night time use that all can enjoy and benefit from. When the curtains are on, it's like you're on the international space station, with gravity.
Exterior hookups work. I only ever used the electric on the very rare occasion I thought I needed it. My campouts and trips generally never needed help as I would charge everything up to 100% before heading out.
Anyway, when I had the engine swapped the entire wiring harness was replaced as a result. I put a little less than 8K miles on the new FAS 2.0L gas engine. It is not a speed demon but very dependable and reliable, which the original VW engine absolutely was not anymore.
Could use some minor rust removal in the usual places and a nice paint job. No body leaks, no oil leaks, can be a daily driver.
