1966 21 Window Walkthru, Beautiful Restoration! Price: $105,000
|
1966 21 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus, Walkthru, Beautiful!
This gorgeous 21 Window has been treated to a full bare-metal restoration and has received Best Of Show at the Flanders, New Jersey show, Best Engine at the Litchfield show, among other Best Type 2 and runner up awards at other events a handful of years back when it attended some shows. It was completely disassembled, carefully and professionally media blasted to bare metal inside and out, and all parts were blasted, replated, painted, or powder coated. All of the drivetrain, engine, steering, and braking systems were fully rebuilt or built from scratch, and it runs and drives beautifully, nice and tight.
The Bus was originally shipped to New York, NY, was sold new at Martin Volkswagen, Inc. in Utica, NY, and has been on the East Coast its entire life. The original owner was a famous New York City Abstract Artist named Fred Mitchell.
The body and paint are very nice, resprayed in the beautiful factory original colors of Sea Blue and Cumulus White with correct Silver White bumpers, too. The paint is high quality Glasurit single stage and it displays very nicely. The Bus was in the original paint prior to the restoration and was a good candidate requiring mainly lower sections to be replaced like most every Bus these days. Details to note include having all the correct doors, hatch, decklid, apron, original and correct pointed end bumpers, and Deluxe aluminum trim, too. The undercarriage is also super clean, nicely detailed, and features factory grey and overspray of Sea Blue in similar patterns to the way Volkswagen originally did at the factory. This is also a desirable factory 6 popout with Bus and a set of safari windshields were also added for extra cool factor.
The interior is also very nice, was done by Lenny at West Coast Classics, and is attractively refinished in Mesh Grey aka Salt and Pepper. The Bus originally came with a full width middle seat but the owner opted for the more practical shorty seat to compliment the factory walk thru option. The pinpoint vinyl headliner is nice and tight, the jail bars and rear seat luggage bar are present, middle and rear seat kick panels are present, and the speedometer and clock were professionally restored by Orange Empire Speedometer. There is a crack in the lens on the clock, not a big deal.
Mechanically this 1966 features a rebuilt and era-appropriate 1500 single port H case engine, fully rebuilt original transaxle, white wall bias ply tires as it was originally supplied according to the Birth Certificate from Volkswagen, and the electrical system has been converted to 12 volt for added reliability, practicality, and safety on modern roads. It has very few miles on it since completion. I have several action videos that I can text to seriously interested parties. You can text me at (858)366-2549 or WhatsApp at Brendan Finn (858)366-2549. The video clips will also be shared on our Instagram page, @holygrailgarage as well.
Overall this is a beautiful factory 21 Window Deluxe Bus that is well above average, makes a good impression as is evidenced by the numerous awards it has received, and it comes with the Birth Certificate as well as the Before Restoration and During Restoration pics, too.
Here's your chance to get a nicely done genuine 21 Window Walkthru at a very reasonable price compared to the cost to bring another real example to this level! Thanks!
