VW T2 Bay Westfalia - Body Dropped - Supercharged Price: 39995
|
There are campers, and then there is the BMXBUS.
Imported from California in 2014 and rebuilt in the UK over nine years, this left hand drive Westfalia has been turned into a true one-off. Evil Ben's of Truro handled the fabrication and assembly across the project with invoices and photos to prove it. The end result is a patina Westy that crouches low on command, drives properly, wins trophies, and carries a paper trail that serious buyers expect.
The shell was stripped and repaired. The body was channelled to sit low over fully notched chassis rails. Front and rear tubs were fabricated, and a neat engine bay hatch was built in so maintenance is easy. Floors and underside were Raptor coated before reassembly. The patina exterior was lacquered so it stays exactly as it looks in the photos.
Press the remote and the four corner hydraulic suspension sets the stance for a show field. Press again and it rises to a sensible road height for Cornwall lanes or motorway miles. To make sure the geometry and braking match the stance, a full custom front beam and brake package was built by Type 2 Detectives: 4 inch narrowed beam with added castor and raised centre pin, new idler pin and idler arm, full set of trailing arms, slam arm modification, new link pins, special dropped spindles to accept late bay discs and calipers, all brand new discs and calipers. Brakes were fully replumbed with new lines and an uprated bias valve. This isn't just for looks, the bus drives straight and stops properly.
Power comes from a supercharged 1776cc flat four. Autolinea case, Mahle forged pistons and cylinders, Engle 100 cam, big valve heads, Total Seal rings, Kompressorhaus supercharger, Snow Stage 2 meth injection, 123 Bluetooth distributor, AFR and CHT sensors, stainless pushrod tubes, external oil cooler, cerakoted tinware. The build is finished with anodised blue titanium nuts, bolts and washers throughout, a detail that makes the engine bay as much of a showpiece as the rest of the van. It looks right, it sounds right, and it has covered around 2,000 miles since completion. Stage two Kennedy Clutch, A Freeway Flyer ratio in the 4 speed gearbox keeps cruising calm.
Inside, the original Westfalia interior remains. It is the vibe that makes old VWs feel like old VWs, and it is all still here. Discreet upgrades make it usable: heated leather front seats, diesel heater, fresh loom with useful sockets, and a proper audio system with Monitor Audio speakers and sub driven by a Yamaha amp (£4000). modified Range Rover Rostyle wheels set it off. A YETI Alpine Yellow camping set (£700 worth) and a custom Kanvasworks (£1400) awning go with the sale.
This bus is award winning and well known. It comes with a thick file of Evil Ben's invoices totalling over £54,000 and about 1,072 hours of professional labour. There is a VW Heritage birth certificate. In November 2021 an independent assessor valued it at £45,000 market value with a £60,000 replacement insurance figure. Since then further upgrades have been carried out, including the supercharger system, Sound system and countless hours fettleing and improvements, so it sits today beyond that benchmark. No faults to declare. Stored indoors.
If you are shopping for a tidy Bay to daily, this probably is not for you. If you want a flagship piece for a collection or a show-going camper that draws a crowd and is engineered properly, the BMXBUS is exactly that. You simply cannot build this bus to this standard today for cheaper.
